meet in CopenhagenThe Scandinavian Chapter of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) publishes the Scandinavian Destination Sustainability Index analyzing sustainability performance across 16 cities and 5 countries. Scandinavian cities are taking pioneer steps to advance their leadership in sustainable meetings but there is potential to improve and drive performance. This was the conclusion of the unique study commissioned by ICCA Scandinavian Chapter, and conducted by MCI Sustainability Services. The Index uses 16 performance indicators to measure and benchmark the sustainability commitment and performance of the city government and the destination infrastructure (recycling, renewable energy etc), and the sustainability commitment and performance of the local meetings industry.

Survey of incentive travel participants highlights differences in values
SITEJust as the general business practices of marketing, sales, finance, procurement and human resources have evolved, so too has effective incentive program strategy, design, operations and measurement. The Site International Foundation and the Incentive Travel Council have just released the fourth and final segment of their study, Incentive Travel: The Participant's Viewpoint. This study examined the program participant's viewpoint - both qualifiers and non-qualifiers - on what makes an incentive travel program and award more meaningful, motivational and memorable.
The report concludes that today's incentive travel participants are very different in terms of behavioral drivers and expectations. Designing the right motivational experiences requires a new level of participant engagement. In order for incentive travel to truly deliver value on core business objectives, there must be a more people-centered and cross-functional set of efforts. Creating a win/win focused approach for both the organization and the participants provides for a more fair and equal set of returns.
This study serves as a must read for all professionals working with motivational reward structures as well as for those who create extraordinary destination experiences. The data provides many reference points that allow both planners and their partners to consider as they collaborate on programs that deliver impactful business results and excite participants to work to achieve the program objectives set before them.

American Airlines resumes flights from New York JFK to Tokyo Haneda Airport
American Airlines resumed its flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Haneda Airport (HND) in Tokyo on June 1st, 2012. Almost 70 million customers pass through Haneda Airport annually, making it Asia's second busiest airport and the fifth busiest airport in the world. Haneda Airport is Japan's central hub for domestic flights. American and Japan Airlines (JAL), its Pacific joint business partner within the oneworld® alliance, will now offer customers two daily flights between JFK and Tokyo – one JAL flight to and from Tokyo's Narita Airport, and the resumed American Airlines flight to and from Haneda. Japan Airlines will code share with American on the New York-Haneda flight.
Airbus introduces wider seats for obese passengers
The growing girth of flyers has prompted aircraft manufacturer Airbus to design extra-wide seats for its popular A320 jets. Squeezing into a 'cattle class' airline seat is about to get a lot easier for the overweight traveler – but at the expense of more slimline passengers. Rather than have rows of three seats, each 18in wide, Airbus proposes making the aisle seat 20in wide and reducing the width of the two others by an inch each. The new configuration would also allow airlines to impose an extra charge for the premium seats, with Airbus estimating that a USD 10.00 fee could generate an extra USD 3.2 million for each aircraft over 15 years. That could help offset the extra fuel cost required to carry overweight passengers. Airbus came up with the new design in response to requests from airlines who say travelers' expanding size has become a major headache.
